This print depicts Otsu, one of the Tokaido 53 stations. The series is known as the Reisho Tokaido from the formal calligraphic style of the cartouches.This Japanese woodblock print or ukiyo-e by Hiroshige Ando Series Reisho Tokaido originally printed in the 19th century is a mid-20th century hand-carved posthumous edition by known Kyoto publisher Uchida Art Co, Ltd, who has been producing artist quality woodblock prints since 1919 maintaining the Japanese tradition of printmaking of the ukiyo-e era alive.
This recarved edition print depicts a lively and animated multicolour street scene in Otsu, one of the Tokaido 53 stations. Printing is of good quality and the colours are still lively.
The Tokaido road, linking Edo to Kyoto, was the main transport artery of old Japan. Hiroshige first travelled the length of the road in 1832 and its landscapes and people made a profound impression on him, after which he made various series of prints on the subject. The price is for the framed ukiyo-e.

Overall good condition. Some light age-toning. One black mark on bottom left corner with corresponding faint impressed mark on reverse (see pictures).
